Nintendo Canada 2004

I was formerly a business unit Director at Cossette - Canada’s largest advertising business. Part of the role involved new business development and Nintendo Canada was probably my biggest new biz success.

What makes this interesting is that until 2004 Canada (a subsidiary of the US!) had always used US advertising and tweaked it for the Canadian market. The fact that US Nintendo advertising sucked for the most part and still does seemed to have been forgotten.

I battled hard for this one and we managed to pick up the assignment to develop the first ever Canadian advertising spots for Nintendo. We developed a campaign entitled ‘Too Much Fun’ focusing on the addictive nature of the game-play (remember this was pre Wii and the Game Cube was considered a toy and unappealing). They have ongoing challenges versus XBox and Playstation but I think it is fair to say that this campaign plus some new innovative hardware have helped them to solidify their position in the Canadian marketplace.

Below are some examples of outdoor and TV spots - please click the links to view the ad’s.
