Sony losing the plot?

Many commentators feel that Sony has been sliding for years, the main example being how they were completely sidestepped by Apple and the once dominant position of their Walkman brand is no more. From what I can see Sony lost sight of the consumer and in particular producing stuff that people want - I know many people feel frustrated by Sony’s proprietay approach to things like Memory Stick and ATRAC3 encoding. When the market is zigging Sony tend to zag and not for good reason.

The recent launch of the PS3 is a great example, they have a killer piece of technology but have completely failed to communicate the benefits, confused fans as to whether their existing games will play on the console and played hard ball with bloggers who generally want to see the company succeed.

Christmas 07 is shaping up to be an epic battle, read the BBC’s view here can Sony gather there composure or will they continue stumbling and losing fans along the way. From what I can see they need to reconnect with their consumers quickly.
