I’ve seen the future of TV - Joost

Back in October last year I mentioned that those successful boys who created Skype had set their sites on changing the way we watch and consume TV. Well I’ve just completed my sign up to Joost and I am blown away, it’s still in Beta but holy crap it’s amazing. What is staggering is how developed the service is, how many content providers have signed up and how good the streaming is - OK there are a few stutters here and there but this will be ironed out.

Couple of things - if I was a traditional broadcaster I’d be signing up as soon as possible or risk being left behind very quickly. Two, I can’t wait to see how Agency media buyers and planners try and wrap their heads around this one, they have enough problems trying to get to grips with the World Wide T’Internet thingy. The death of the 30 second spot is surely a matter of when not if. If they are able to partner with Apple and get this on the Apple TV it would be very cool. Apple have just announced a deal with YouTube so it must only be a matter of time.

The final thing to mention is the array of tools available for blogging about Joost shows, inviting friends etc. all neatly integrated into the desktop application.

Web development and use at its finest I’d say!
